Meet a swimmer in lockdown – Abba

Abba is our Club Chair, trains with us at Dulwich and CP and is a regular competitive pool swimmer, currently missing her 200 fly.

“It’s looking like a pretty hard summer to look forward to. With the National and European Champs and my training trip to Club La Santa cancelled, it’s hard to stay motivated. And, like all of you it’s pretty tough to be locked in at home, no access to a pool and feeling like I am getting un-fitter every day

So here are my top tips to stay fit and healthy!

I get up a 7 am, drink a coffee and then do a 30 min workout. On my static bike, or lifting jars of tomatoes, I even have a 5 kilo bag of rice which I have banned the family from eating so I can lift. Here’s an example:
Cardio (4×45 secs on, 15 secs rest)
45 secs static bike hard
45 secs star jumps
45 secs step ups (alternate leg – done on my kitchen bench)
Strength – 4 x 10 reps of each as a circuit
10 x deep squats
10 x press ups (slow)
10 x dips (on kitchen chair)
10 x (5 kilo rice bag) bicep curlsI

I have a crazy 5 year old boy and 2 dogs so my lunchtime is spent running them in the park for our 1 allowed outing. We get wet in the river, muddy in the puddles – no rules, this is our one release!

I miss the geekiness of swim chat, so I am indulging in Netflix. I’m currently watching the Movistar story of last year’s cycling race, the Tour de France, and am reading Jensen Button’s autobiography even though I am not an F1 fan. It is a great insight into competing and winning at any sporting event

I am also rebuilding my old race bike, it brings out the perfectionist engineer in me (oh yes, even me!!) It’s great to have a project.

Stay safe and stay happy. Join us on Facebook for some live training sets and competitions!“
