The location for the pool swimming is the Duna Arena, Dagaly Beach, address:
1138 Budapest XIII. kerület
Népfürdő utca 36.
This is on the banks of the Danube by Arpad hid, slightly north of the city.
(Hid = Bridge, utca, pronounced utsa = Street, the complex is on Nepfurdo street.) You can easily see this on google maps if you search for Duna Arena.
There are 2 x 50m indoor racing pools and 1x50m outdoor pool, which may be used for warm up. There are 2 further outdoor racing pools on Margaret Island which is very close, if numbers require extra facilities. For the 2017 Worlds, they used all 4 pools, but we were done by lunchtime, so this will not be planned for the Europeans.
The pool is north of the city and there is not much happening around there. However if you want to focus exclusively on swimming, there is a nice hotel about a mile away and also a small apartment.
Hotel = Danubias Hotel Helia. https://www.booking.com/hotel/hu/helia.en-gb.html
Apartment = google search “apartment nepfurdo” and it will come up on various booking sites.
Metro Line 3 goes to Forgach utca which is a short walk to the pool, and there are also buses that stop outside, numbers 15 and 115 from the city.
The hotel that some of us stayed in for the Worlds was NH Budapest City, which was convenient for both Duna and Margaret Island by bus, but it now seems rather expensive (£1500 for a week). Apartments seem much better value. HomeAway, AirBnB and booking.com are possible booking sites.
Lupa Lake is about 20 mins drive North of the Duna Arena.
New Inter Club Swimming Meet for 2020
Spencer vs Mid Sussex Marlins
A couple of years in the forming and the inaugural event will happen in 2020.
We have managed to arrange an event for our club members which will be a no pressure, fun and social competitive meet.
Against Mid Sussex Marlins and held in Haywards Heath, 11th July 2020. We are hoping that a successful first year will lead this to being an annual fun competitive event.
In detail the events will be all strokes over 50 and 100 metres. In each discipline there will be 4 age categories with a beneficial handicap based on age. This will lead to exciting and close races.
We will also run a series of relay races, some of which will hopefully include some of our fun events!!!
After there will be a barbeque, some drinks and chance to socialize with some old and new friends.
It is the intent at this time to arrange for group transport, but this needs to be worked on.
Date:Saturday 11th July 2020
In the first instance we need to start getting levels of interest and names in the frame.
It does not matter what standard you are; you are part of Team Spencer.
Please mail Steve with your statement of interest and importantly date of birth.
More details will follow but in the first instance please mail Steve.
Spencer Swim Team
Open Water Mile championship!!!! 2020
It is a race, but it will also be a great day out, with scenery, spectacle, food and drink.
To be held at Oxford in the Thames, start time 11am on Sunday 6th September 2020, this is a straight mile river race. The club will be making awards by 5-year age categories.
We will follow the race with fabulous coffee and cake, other beverages are available.
After that we will meet for a picnic lunch on the banks of the river and whatever river dips take your fancy. Bring the family, the food and the drink.
This is really a fantastic addition to the Spencer calendar and your committee and coach hope for an excellent turn out on the day.
Next year I am very keen to top the 30 mark in terms of members. Suits or skins, you are all welcome.
This year to get the momentum going please mail me direct with your entry. The official website will not be open for a while. I will then make a group booking. Please also confirm your DoB.
