I have been swimming with Spencer for well over 10 years, a Putney and Ernest Bevin regular. I tend to prefer open water swimming to pool races though had been gearing myself up to join the inter club gala with Mid-Sussex Marlins this July……
How are you coping with being out of the water?
I have spent 5 or 6 weeks out of the water twice over last few years after having two babies. I guess the difference this time is no one else is training either. I am hoping it’s not going to be much more than 5 or 6 weeks this time but suspect it might be…..
What do you miss most?
How good you feel after one of Steve’s sessions….they’re always deceptively hard but enjoyable. I also miss all my fellow Spencer swimmers and seeing everyone regularly for a chat.
Do you have a daily fitness routine?
Monday to Friday everyday I am doing a “Coronacore” class with fellow Spencer member Ben Humphrey over Whatsapp….we’re building up our plank times….and throw in a press up challenge here and there.
We also panic purchased a turbo trainer as I was worried that lockdown rules could have gone the way of Spain or Italy so I am doing a bit of that as well as running laps around Wandsworth park (1 lap = 0.9 miles!)
Oh, and pacing the room when I am on conference calls during the week.
Any recommendations for team mates?
Try some of Steve’s Gut Busters if you’re in need of a physical challenge…..
How is your partner/family/housemate coping with you not swimming?
Well my older son, who has just turned 4, has stopped asking with a sad face “Are you going swimming tonight Mum?”. So I think he’s quite pleased. I am pretty sure my partner James however is missing the quiet few hours he had when I was out swimming and the invariably good mood I was in when I returned.
What are you most looking forward to when you can get back in the water?
Some good hard training sessions, seeing everyone again, and being able to stop counting laps of Wandsworth Park….
