Godfrey is a long standing member of Spencer, who swims at Putney and was winner of the Dave Mace trophy in 2019. He regularly competes at local, national and international meets.
After retirement, a few weeks ago, Godfrey went on holiday to Thailand. He returned with a cough, not COVID 19, but was in quarantine until he got a negative result. He now tells us what he’s been doing since then.
“I have only just finished my cough completely, which has been a long time, at least six weeks from when it first started in Thailand. I have just started some sit ups and press ups each day, though not many at the moment. I also take my daily walk, for about two, or two and half miles, around the nearby parks, changing the route each day.
I really miss my swimming, a lifetime habit, and way of life, and a good stretch.
I miss my routine of swimming on certain days, and seeing my club mates at those times.
I will be missing having a race, at the GB.’s and seeing many friendly faces there. I am going to miss my holiday, and training camp at Lanzarote very much, also.
My housemate has just returned to Poland to see his family there, for the time being, where he has to self isolate for fourteen days. Before this we spent two weeks of fence painting, path cleaning ,some repairs, and gardening. We were lucky, as we were able to buy materials at the time, which went to essentials only later.
I will be looking forward to getting back to my swimming routine, and to be able to go the local Leisure Centre when I want.
Happy Easter and hope to see you all soon.”
