Spencer’s medal total at the Nationals in Sheffield has now been verified as a brilliant 17 gold, 20 silver and 17 bronze, made up of 2 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals in the team races and 15 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze in the individuals.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of both Otter Swimming Club and the ASA, Otter presented a trophy for the top club at the Swim England Nationals. They were determined to win the trophy for the first year and did so in style, with a margin of 50 points from Birmingham Masters. Spencer were in 3rd place.

We were slightly down on numbers this year, due to injury and illness, especially amongst the older swimmers. So unusually for us there were no records in the team races, but the individual records made up for that, with Dan Cotton Swimming 4 British records – for 100 & 200 back and 200 & 400 IM, Di Ford achieving British records in the 100 & 200 breast and a European in the 50, and Amanda Heath taking British records in the 100 breast and 400 IM.
Other outstanding performances came from Barbara Halls, with massive PB’s in her events, Guy Emerson with his post cancer PB’s and club chair Abba Newbery retaining her bronze position in the 200 fly. To be honest, just about everyone had a good swim or two.
