Meet a member – Toby

Toby’s first swimming memory was failing to swim 25m fly aged nine at his trial for Clitheroe Dolphins. Luckily his front crawl got him in and it continues to be his strength – he won 400m gold (30-34 age group) at the long course Masters nationals in 2016. He still dreads the fly sets! As a student he turned to triathlon, but after moving to London he joined Spencer in 2010, and he now tries to train with us up to 4 times a week, when his work (in corporate turnaround for distressed businesses) does not get in the way. Club sessions motivate him to train harder, and avoids him having to swim around people in public swim sessions. He also manages to fit in running, cycling and occasional bouldering. Having competed in the European Masters championships last year, his current aim is to get under 4m30s in the 400m at the Nationals in Sheffield.
