Meet a member in lock down – Tracy

Tracy joined us from South London swimmers last year, and although a committed open water swimmer and water polo player, she made her debut for us at Crawley this year gaining a handful of relay medals.

How are you coping with being out of the water?

To be honest, life has been turned upside down so much I don’t think I’m missing it as much as I thought I would. But now we are talking about it, a swim of any type (indoor, outdoor, the type with a ball) would be really nice.

What do you miss most?

The smell. And exercise that doesn’t leave me feeling achy in unusual places.

Do you have a daily fitness routine?

Not really. I’m finding the work/kids/sleep/repeat routine pretty full on. My ‘routine’ is based around excessive amounts of squats whilst simultaneously pretending to play other garden games. Past injuries mean running is off the list for me.  I haven’t been on so many bike rides since I was 12. And I seem to subconsciously end up cycling to pools where I train, Crystal Palace if I want some hills, Tooting if I don’t.

Any recommendations for team mates?

Don’t copy me?

Which competitions have you missed/will you miss and how will that affect you?

I had planned for a summer of open water bliss, and to try a couple of 10kms for the first time. The ones that I have entered have been postponed rather than cancelled, but I’m unsure how anyone can swim that distance having been out of the water for a couple of months.  The one I’m most upset about is a polo tournament in Jersey (which is my family home) that I was organising for my team (SLSC Leeches) to play in. We will just have to wait till next year to take on the teams of my respective siblings.

How is your family coping with you not swimming?

They have a maximum age of 8, so social awareness is not their strong point. But they understand that when I say I am going swimming, they need to loop the Theraband around my favorite tree.

What are you most looking forward to when you can get back in the water?

The trouble is, going back to swimming also means going back to other things, like basic grooming, which I’m slightly nervous about. But otherwise, I will enjoy the smell.  And the fact the Lidos will have warmed up a bit.
