Meet a member in lock down – Peter

Peter was a Spencerite way back when, and rejoined as an out of towner a couple of years ago. He is a member of our record breaking 280+ 4×200 free team and medalled in the 2018 European 5k Open Water Championships.

Where are you based and how are you coping with the lockdown rules?

I am based in Falmouth and the lockdown has no significant effect on me. Being out of the water is not a problem. During my service with the Royal Navy there were several periods when I was not able to swim for prolonged periods so it is something I am use to.

What do you miss most?

I do miss the competitions, the traveling and I will particuarly miss my trip to Club La Santa in May. I will particularly miss the GB’s and probably a 10K swim in the pool in Cheltenham but there is always next year to look forward to. Keeping fit is not a problem.

Do you have a daily fitness routine?

I have a 7 acre area of land that is physically demanding to keep under control. 4 to 6 hours a day there keeps me socially isolated and fit. As light relief I have been observing the behavior of wild ducks that have taken up residence in a large pond I had made. 4 drakes and a female make an interesting combination. For most part the they all get on peacefully but then there is the short vicious fight between some or all of the drakes before one starts chasing after the female before peace returns. The result was a large number of ducklings. I have not seen the female or the ducklings for several days so sadly I suspect a fox has had them.
