I am sharing the updated guidance from Swim England (as published 17/03/2020) that swimming training in their view is now considered as meeting the “public gathering” category of the Government guidelines. As a result of this and the changing situation, the Spencer Committee have taken the difficult decision to suspend Club training until further notice. The safety of you, our swimmers, and our coaches is of paramount importance to us at Spencer.
At this time and under Government guidance pools still remain open and we have not cancelled our pool bookings. We do not plan to do so before the end of March, therefore you can still choose to attend any of our booked sessions as per your own personal decision. We will also continue to pay our coaches who will provide virtual training sessions be that in the pool or on land, for as long as is financially sustainable for the club.
However, please note that Dulwich College have made the decision to close their pool and therefore Saturday sessions at Dulwich College will not be taking place until further notice so please do not turn up to these sessions.
Myself and the committee recognise that this will be a tough time for all of us going forward, swimming is big part of all of our lives and we thrive on the competition, the rigour and discipline of training, the camaraderie and the social aspect of swimming and the friends we have made doing so.
